FAQs to keep it safe and fun in Lima
Is there any recommended car ride I should take from the airport?
There are different secure car services located in the airport, or if you are staying in a hotel or using a website like booking.com you should also be able to reserve a ride in advance. We also have some family-recommended drivers (we usually contact them to pick us up from the airport when we arrive in Lima). If you are interested in that, just let us know and we’ll be happy to help you coordinate your pick up from the airport.
What is the local currency? Do I need cash? Can I pay with USD?
Our local currency is Soles (s/.). You’ll definitely see some prices in USD, but the exchange rate will not benefit you if you pay in dollars.
You can use most credit cards and Apple Pay, but there might be cases where AMEX is not accepted. Visa is probably the safest option.
We recommend you exchange some money and keep some cash just in case. If you buy something outside of a store, you will definitely need cash.
As of today, the exchange rate is approx. 1$ = 3.77 s/.
Is Lima a safe city?
We would love to say yes, but reality is that it’s not. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t explore, it just means that you need to be careful when you are out. These are some of our recommendations you should follow:
Never take taxis that are just standing in the streets. Always use a secure car ride.
Don’t carry your phone in your hand or use it while walking outside, or even inside a taxi, especially while in red traffic lights.
Don’t wear any striking jewelry if you know you are gonna be walking outside. Keep it simple.
When seating in restaurants or any public local, make sure you keep your belongings in sight. Don’t leave your bags hanging in the back of your chair or somewhere where you can’t see them.
What type of transportation should I use?
Unfortunately public transportation in Lima is not good. The best and most secure way to move around Lima is using a ride sharing application. You can use Uber or Cabify. By no means take a taxi from the street, even if it’s for a short distance.
How is traffic in Lima?
Traffic can be a nightmare, especially on busy hours. If you plan to move around, check Google Maps or Waze to get a better estimation on how long would it take you to get to your destination.
What’s the weather like in April?
April is the end of our summer (best weather!), so the expected temperature will be between 18°C - 26°C (60°F - 80°F). Since Lima is near the ocean, certain areas are very humid. Check the weather forecast the days before traveling to plan accordingly.
Do we need to tip when eating in restaurant?
Tipping is not mandatory. However, it’s a common practice. If you received a good service, 10% tip is a good recommendation.
Where should I start my Peruvian gastronomic journey?
Ok, we are biased, but Peru has some of the best food in the world. Go to Our recs page and check out our recommended spots and gastronomic experiences.
I’d love to do a sightseeing tour in Lima, do you have any recommendations?
Yes! We are currently working on some options that you might like. We’ll update this section very soon!
FAQs on how to prepare and what to expect on our wedding day
What does formal attire mean (in Lima)?
The dress code for our wedding is formal, and as you know, we love encouraging everyone to be their most creative selves. Formal attire in Peru usually means: suits, with or without a tie, and long or midi dresses with formal shoes. Be comfortable, and bring another set of shoes if you think you’ll need them for the party. We don’t want any fashion to stop you from dancing all night.
At what time should I arrive? When does the ceremony start?
The doors at Casa Hoross will open at 5:00 pm for all of our guests. Ceremony will start promptly at 5:30 pm but we encourage you to arrive before so you can settle in, enjoy a drink, and enjoy some music.
Will there be parking? How should I get there?
Unless you are lucky, it might be complicated to find parking around the area. We recommend you take a taxi there. The team in charge of security for the event will be able to help you find a ride back home or to your hotel by contacting a secure taxi for you.
The invite says the party ends at 1:00 am. Is that true?
Of course it’s not! We are only allowed to party in the venue until 1:00 am, but that doesn’t mean that the fun needs to end then. Our After Party will be at Espacio Culpa, a bar across the street from the venue!
Do I need to eat before arriving?
This might be a funny question but we usually ask ourselves this before any event. We’ll offer a walk-in dinner throughout the event, featuring a variety of small dishes and appetizers from the start, including some vegetarian options (we’ll never forget our veggie friends), in addition to the traditional cheese and dessert table. For those who stay until late (hopefully everyone — yes, I’m looking at you), we’ll also have late night snacks, or as we call it in Lima: bajona.
What if I don’t drink?
That’s ok, we’ll still love you. As part of our open bar, we’ll have non-alcoholic options and mocktails ready for you.
Is there anything else I need to know?
We’re very excited to host a party and celebrate with all of you! Due to space, and because it’s not really our vibe, we won’t accommodate everyone in dinner tables, so expect a more informal dynamic. We will have some tables reserved for our families, but everyone is welcomed to find their preferred seats, or not — why seat when you can dance.
Can I bring an extra guest with me?
Unless you’ve been explicitely invited with a +1, we can’t accommodate more guests unless it’s Karol G, Shakira, or one of the Spice Girls. We’d love to let everyone bring people but we are constraint by the space and venue capacity. If you have any question about this or if you fall in love in the weeks leading to the wedding, please reach out to us!
Hey Funchi, what if I want to go to the hair or nail salon?
I got you. You don’t need to do this, but if you are like me, you’ll wanna know. Text me and I’ll provide you a recommendation near you.
We’ve gotten some questions about registry. Is there one?
Honestly, we don’t need anything else than having you there and we appreciate the effort in making it all the way to Peru ♥.
If you insist, we are open to getting bribed.
